THE MISSING WARATAH.
London, August 29
With reference to the case of the overdue liner Waratah, and the possibility of her being still afloat, a correspondent recalls the rescue of the Dutch barque Dordrecht, which was missing for several weeks off the coast of South Africa in 1884. The position of the Dordrecht, the correspondent says, was just as hard to locate as is the Waratah’s. Adelaide, August 30. The steamer Ayrshire, which has arrived here from Cape Town, reports that she kept a look-out for the missing steamer Waratah, but saw no trace of her. Perth, August 36. An officer of the steamer Madura, which has arrived here from Delagoa Bay, states that the east-north-east cuirent had taken an extraordinary southerly set when the Madura was in those parts. With the strong northerly winds prevailing at times, he believes that the Waratah, if disabled, was drifting southward, and would now be making towards Australia in a very southerly latitude.
