PRESENTATION TO MR W. ADAMS.
BY THE SCHOOL CHILDREN. Prior to the breaking up of the local State School yesterday afternoon a very pleasing ceremony took place. The scholars on learning that the Education Board had transferred Mr W. Adams, headmaster, from Foxton to the Mangaweka school, decided to raise funds in order to present him with a mark of their esteem and a memento of his connection with the school. Their choice took the form of a handsome dressing case inscribed as follows :—“Presented to W. Adams, Esq., by the pupils of the Foxton School on the occasion of his transfer to Mangaweka.’’ The children were assembled in the quadrangle and Mr Small briefly explained the reason of the gathering and then called upon Master Bertie Wyeth to make the presentation. The little fellow stepped forward, and handing Mr Adams the present, referred with regret to the recipient’s departure from Foxton, and on behalf of his fellow pupils, wished him every success in the future, and hoped that the small token would serve to remind him of the pleasant times spent with the children of the Foxton school.
Mr Adams, in acknowledging the gift, referred to the happy relations that had always existed between the scholars, the staff and himself. He said that his absence from Foxton would be only for a short period, as he intended to again take up his residence and spend the rest of his days here. He concluded by again thanking the donors for the handsome gift. The gathering dispersed with three hearty cheers for Mr Adams, the staff and the holidays.
