PROFESSOR RECOMMENDS FLIRTING.
New York, June 28. Professor Palmer, who occupies the chair of moral philosophy at the University of Harvard, has earned for himself the new title of “Professor of Flirting.” He is the oldest and most popular member of the faculty of Harvard, and consequently his declaration that all students should flirt is received with great respect. Professor Palmer says : “Flirting is the surest road to the proper knowledge of social life. The girls of Radcliffe (which is the women’s college ot Harvard University) and the boys at Harvard devote too much time to study, with the result that when they complete their university course they know nothing of social life. They should mingle a little frivolity with their studies, and flirt. “Recently, on parting with an over-studious girl who had taken her degree at Radcliffe, I told her that she must flirt ‘good and hard’ to make up for lost time. She agreed. “Of course it makes a lot of difference who does the flirting, and when, where and how it is done, but a little harmless flirting or take a real holiday. One can have flirting mixed with studies, and emerge alright.” Professor Palmer is 67 years of age, and is twice a widower. It is reported that he will soon be married again, this time to a professor of Wellesley College, another famous college for women.
