CONCERT.

“One of the best concerts yet held in Foxfon,” was the verdict of quite a number of people who were present at the concert held under the auspices of the Presbyterian church choir, in the Masonic Hall, last night. The hall was filled with an appreciative audience, representative of all denominations. Of the vocal items on the programme we cannot speak too highly, and in this connection special mention must be made of the individual and concerted items by Mesdames Pearce f Sand on), Wrigley (Foxton), Miss and Mr Anderson (Sandon). The members of this musical family could provide a vocal and instrumental programme which would satisfy the most critical audience. We hope Foxton will have further opportunities of hearing them. Misses Furrie (piano), A. and E. Symons (violins) and Mr T. Betty (trombone), provided instrumental items which were well received, as were the violin duets by the Misses Symons, whose services, by the way, Foxton audiences are soon to lose. The Rev. Mr McKenzie (Shannon) contributed a pianoforte selection with good effect. Mr Jenks was particularly successful in his interpretation of the vocal item, “De Profundus.” Messrs Fowler and W. Cook’s vocal items were received as usual with keen appreciation. Mrs Patterson and Miss Aitken were in good voice. The humourous items were supplied by Messrs Claris and Hornblow. Mr Claris’ description of “How Uncle Podger Hung a Picture,” created roars of laughter. A large number of items were deservedly encored.

The following was the programme submitted ; Overture, “Constellation,” Misses A. and E. Symons (violin), Miss Furrie (piano), and Mr Betty (trombone) ; song, “My Bonny Barque,” Mr Geo. Fowler; duet, “When the

Wind Bloweth in from the Sea,” Mrs Pearce and Mr Anderson ; violin Jsolo (encored), Miss Symons ; song, “ The Valley by the Sea,” Mrs Patterson; song, “ Wedding Morning,” Mr Anderson ; song and chorous, “Far Away,” Mesdames Pearce, Patterson, Wrigley, Misses Anderson and Jenks, Messrs Wrigley, Jenks, Betty and Anderson, also the glee, “ Hail Smiling Morn ” ; recitation, “ Not too Bad” (encored), Mr Hornblow ; song, “ Granny’s Rings,” (encored), and “ Dawn,” Miss Anderson ; pianoforte solo, Mr McKenzie ; song, “ De .Profundus ” Mr Jenks; trombone solo, “ Ah Che La Morte,” Mr T. Betty; song with chorous, “Queen of Angels,” Mrs Wrigley; song, “Beyond” (encored), and “ Promise of Life,” Mr W. Cook ; recitation, “ Uncle Podger,” (encored), Mr Claris ; song, “If I were King,” Mr Anderson; violin duet, Miss Symons; song, “My Love,” Miss Aitken; duet, “Elfin Call,” (encored), Mesdames Anderson and Wrigley; instrumental, “ Schubert’s Serenade,” Mr Betty’s party ; song, “ Alone on the Raft,” Mr Wrigley; song and chorus, “ When the Silver Tints the Gold,” Mrs Pearce and party. Accompaniments were played by Mrs Pearce, Misses Furrie, Jenks and Cook and Mr McKenzie. On the motion of the Rev. Mr Aitken, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the performers. A special word of praise is due to Mr Wrgley (Choirmaster) who arranged the concert. The takings should just about liquidate the debt on the organ-
