lu the case oi Harry Thaw — found guilty of shooting Stanford White, but acquitted and placed in an asylum on the ground of insanity—the judge refused Thaw’s appeal for release, holding that he was still irresponsible for his actions.
Seventy-seven witnesses were examined, and the evidence of forty-nine others was read. Ottawa, August 13.
A strike has occurred at Fort William, the grain shipping port on the west shore of Lake Superior, where the Canadian Pacific Railway Company is spending 000 on docks, freight sheds, cold storage, etc. In a strike riot among dockmen on the works, nine men were injured, three of them mortally. The local militia has been reinforced from Winnipeg.
