ALBION 8 v. AWAHOU 3,
On Saturday the above teams met for the fourth time this season, and Albion secured their first victory over Awahou by eight to three points. The weather conditions prevented several of the selected players ot each team from putting in an appearance, but with the help of substitutes, both clubs were able to put 14 men on the field. Owing to the time taken in getting the teams together, play did not commence until about a quarter to four. There was only a handful of spectators present, but the ground, despite the heavy rain that had fallen, was in good order.
The game throughout was fairly even, and the final score (eight to three points) just about denotes the difference in the strength of the two teams on Saturday’s play. There was no score in the first spell. After about ten minutes’ play in the second half, Dunn secured possession near the half-way flag, and putting in a splendid run, dodged clean through the Awahou team and touched down in a good position. It was certainly a pretty piece of play, but Dunn ran a risk and should have passed to Momo, who was in close attendance all the way. Nepia piloted the ball over the bar. This reverse seemed to put some life into Awahou, who worked play into Awahou’s 25’s: A punt by one of the Albion backs was smartly marked by Rore right under the goal posts, from which Haeana kicked a goal. Shortly afterwards, from a forward rush, Hanna fell over the line. Nepia failed with the kick. From the kick out until the call of time, play was fairly even, and there was no further score. Dr Adams controlled the game to the entire satisfaction of both players and spectators.
