CRICKET.

The Australians commenced their match against Lancashire on Thursday. The weather was sunny and the wicket treacherous. The home team won the toss and sent the Australians to the wickets. The visitors were all disposed of for the small total of 87 runs of which Warwick Armstrong scored 43 not out. Dean was in great form with the ball securing five wickets at a cost of 15 runs. When Lancashire commenced batting the wicket was still treacherous. They succeeded in beating the Australians first innings’ score by 18 runs, the last wicket falling with the score at 105 runs. Of these the captain, Hornsby made 31 and Makepeace 27. Armstrong accounted for four wickets at a cost of 14 runs.
