CHEAPER CABLEGRAMS.

London, August 5The Daily Chronicle interviewed Sir Joseph Ward on the subject of cheaper cablegrams. Sir Joseph said he was unable to go as far as penuy-a-word cablegrams at present, but he was sure that an ordinary rate of sixpence a word would pay over and over again compared with the present restrictive charges. When private people used the cables for domestic and social purposes, the accession of cable business would be enormous. He had no desire to reflect on the management of the cable companies, but he considered that cables ought to be State-owned.
