FALSE PRETENCES.
At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon Charles Henricks, who was sentenced to three months’ yesterday morning, for being found by night in the old school, was charged with obtaining goods to the value of 14s 3d from M. H. Walker by means false pretences, viz., by pretence that he had authority from H, Kinley to get them. It appears that accused had gone into Mr Walker’s shop and asked for certain goods on behalf of Mr Kinley. On his request being refused on the grounds that he did not have a written order from Kinlev, accused left the shop, obtained paper and pencil and wrote out an order for the goods to which he signed Kinley’s name. This he presented to Mr Walker and the goods were supplied to him.
Accused pleaded guilty and was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour curamulative on imprisonment he is at present undergoing.
I He was further charged with obtaining goods to the value of 6s 3d from W. C. Howan by the same means. . He pleaded guilty and was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, sentence to be concurrent with previous sentence.
