PRESENTATION.
A pleasant surprise was sprung upon Mr W. Gordon, first assistant at the local state school, yesterday afternoon during drill. A number of the scholars on learning that Mr Gordon had decided to reliuguish teaching in order to follow commercial pursuits, decided that he should not sever his connection with the school without carrying away with him a mark of their esteem. They decided that a pipe, good and true, together with a stock of the soothing weed, should serve as a memento. Master V. Betty, secretary of the School Football Club, acted as spokesman, after which the boys on parade sent up three lusty cheers lor their late master. Mr Gordon acknowledged the gift in suitable terms and the spirit which prompted it. Mr Gordon enters into business as from to-day with Mr Fowler, as general commission agents, and we leel sure that the good wishes of his i little friends for success in his new undertaking will be re-echoed by the older folk.
