Adelaide, July 24. The report of the Government Resident in the Northern Territory refers to the pressing need of population in the country. At the lime Federation was established the territory’s population was 4906 ; now-it has fallen to 3000. London, July 24. The St, Petersburg correspondent of the Standard states that a group of London financiers has acquired control of a combination of Russian banks with 70 European and Asiatic branches. They intend developing AngloRussian economic relations, to the exclusion of German financial groups, which hitherto have been all-powerful in Russia.
