BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening, for the purpose of considering tenders for carting metal from the railway station to the borough roads. There were present : His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles, Fsq.,) and Crs Jenks, Rimmer, Ross, Levett, Speirs, Adams, and Gibbs. A telegram was read from Mr Hanlon, Ashhurst, confirming order for 700 ' yards of river-bed metal, at 2s per yard, on trucks at Ashhurst.

The following tenders were received for carting metal: C. Petersen for distances up to half a mile is 5d per yard, from half to one mile 2s per yard, from one mile to one anda-half miles 2s sd per yard; J. B. Retter, for any distances up, to one and a-half mile is gd per yard; James Coley, distances up to one mile, 2s per yard, from one to one and a-half miles, 3s per yard. On the motion of Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Rimmer, the ten. der of C. Peterson was accepted
