NEWCASTLE TRAGEDY.

Some correspondence has beeh published With regard to the tragedy at Newcastle, where a woman named Streit was found alongside the dead body, oT a man named Healey. The police had received a letter stating that the two intended to die together, and on the entry of a constable Streit attempted to shoot herself, without success. She stated that Healey had shot himself, but that she had lacked the cohrage to do the same.
letters written by Streit to Mrs Healey were read, in which Streit stated that she loved deceased, and was jealous of another woman with whom,he was on friendly terms, adding that she (Streit) had told Healqy she was heart-broken and intended to kill herself. He had asked her to let him die with her. f Streit’s last letter was written on the day of the tragedy. In this the woman said she was to blame for all, and that the deaths of herself and Healey would He at her door.
Streit is at present in custody on a charge ot murdering Healey.
