CRICKET.
On Thursday the Australian cricketers commenced their second match of this tour against SurreyAs will be remembered the first match played against this County resulted in a win for the home team after a very exciting finish by the narrow margin of five runs. At the commencement of the present match the Weather was cloudy and the wicket somewhat ; difficult. Noble won the toss and elected to bat. They made a ' disastrous commencement, four wickets falling for 29 runs. The rest of the batsmen, with the exception of Noble, did very little better, the last wicket falling with the score at the small total of 180. Of these Noble contributed 65 not out and Trumpet* 25. Smith was in good form with the ball, securing seven wickets, at a cost of 70 , runs. . When stumps were drawn- 1 Surrey had scored 92 runs for the loss of three wickets, of this total Hayward not out, had 50 to his credit.
Up to date Armstrong heads, the batting averages of the Australians with an average of 49*88 runs per innings,' Ransfprd 48.94 is second on the list. and Bardsley 47.20 . third.
The manager of the team, Laver, has the best bowling average having secured 47 wickets at a cost of 12.08 runs per.wicket.
