BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night. Present.—His Worship the Mayor (G.' H. Stiles, Hsq.,) Grs Coley, Levett, Jenks, Adams, Speirs, Gibbs, Rae-Howard, Ross and Rimmer.-
Correspondence was read as follows: —
From R. H. Barber, applying for permission to put a pipe under the footpath in Main Street to carry water into gutter.—Permission granted. From Messrs Coley and Bock, notifying that they have disposed ot their interest in the lease of Target Reserve to Mr A. King.— It was decided that Mr King be informed that the rent is payable in advance and that the first halfyear’s rent is now due. From the Treasury, Notifying that the loan tor metalling new streets, had been remitted to the credit of the Council. From Mr R. McNab, regretting that he was unable to deliver an address in Foxton on National Defence prior to his departure for England, but if on his return the matter has not been dealt with by Parliament he would then be pleased to accede to their request. From the Weraroa Experimental Farm advising that they Have no trees suitable for planting on the sides of the streets.
From Hon. Dr. Findlay, acting-Postmaster-General, accepting the invitation to open the new post office, but advising that at present he was unable to fix a date. —Decided to thank Dr Findlay for consenting to open the Post Office and ask him to give as much notice as possible of the date of opening. From E. M. Baker and Co. complaining of state of footpath in front of shop in Main Street. — After some discussion it was decided that the Council meet on Wednesday afternoon to inspect the footpaths and decide what repairs are necessary. From Messrs Nelson and Cook, Jenks Street, asking that the trees at the back of their property in Victoria Park be cut down, as they are keeping their premises in a very damp condition. —It was decided that the Reserve Committee meet at Victoria Park on Wednesday afternoon for the purpose of deciding what trees are necessary to be cut down, and that other trees be planted to replace the ones so destroyed. Mr R. Moore was appointed solicitor to the borough' at an annual fee of £5 ss. The Mayor and Cr Speirs were appointed to represent the Council at the meeting of delegates from local bodies to be held at Sanson on a date to be fixed, for the purpose of considering the advisibility of extending the tram line to Bulls. These delegates have no power to incur any expenditure on behalf ot the Council.
The poundkeeper reported that 2i head of cattle and 23 horses had been impounded by the ranger duiing last month, and that driving fees amounting to 5s had been c. llected.
The Inspector of Nuisances reported that the borough was in a fair sanitary condition. Accounts amounting to ,£333 os 4d were passed for payment.
The Council went into committee to deal with the tenders for supply of metal and erection of fence.
On resuming it was decided that P. Hanlon’s tender for the supply of 100 yards of river bed metal on trucks at Ashhiirst, at as per yard be accepted, and that the Council will take another 600 yards at the same price, and that Mr Hanlon be asked to confirm the latter order. The metal to be delivered within five weeks. It was decided that fresh tenders be called for the erection of the iron fence.
It was resolved to ask all past Mayors to present an enlarged photo of themselves to be hung in the Council Chambers. The Council rose at 10.30 p.m.
