A NEW SCHOOL DISTRICT.
The Manawatu Daily Times is advocating a new educational district. It urges that Palmerston should be the centre of a Board, district extending frbmßangitikei to Otaki, and across into Hawke’s Bay. The Palmerston Chamber of Commerce favour the proposal and will discuss the subject at its next meeting. The Times states ; “We refuse to believe that Palmerston considers that it is best served by the maintenance.'of, an obsolete system suitable when Pal*' merston village, anji Wanganui -was the? chief town of the coast. Wanganui as a matter of fact should be the southern end ol a . district embracing southern Taranaki. We have • nothing in'
common with Wanganui or the Wanganui interests in the matter of educational administration. Palmerston is in itself a natural centre. The matter was brought up at the Chamber of- Commerce -by the present Mayor (Mr J. A. Nash) who is himself a School Committee chairman, some time ago, and so far as we understand he still holds the same view and we believe that practically everyone whose views would carry any weight in educational matters here thinks likewise/’
