RECOMMENDATION OE CONVOCATION. '• t . Eondon, July 8. TheEower House of Convocation of has debated the question whether the recital of , the Atliahasian Creed should be optionalinstead of compulsory. It was decided to recommend the retention of the Creed without the existing^rubric;' also that provi • sion he made for the liturgical use of the Creed without the warning clause's. A committee was appointed to consider the best way of giving effect ta these recommendations. THE “WARNING CLAUSES.” The present-rubric in the Prayer Book' states that upon certain feasts ‘ ‘shall 'be sung -,or said at Morning Prayer,'■instead'of the ,Apostles’ Creed, Christian Faith, commonly- called the Creed of Saint Athanasius by the minister and people, standing, ” The removal of the rubric practically makes the use of the Creed optional.’ Abbey at the present, jfime this Creed is used without ’ the damnatory clauses.' Convocation in 1905 resolved minatory clauses convey a more''unqualified statement than Scripture warrants, and one wliieh is ! not consonant with the language 'of the greatest teachers of the Church,” and decided “to defer its final judgment until after the Earn be th Conference of 1908.” J; The Eambeth Conference received and carefully considered one of several proposals “for meeting the difficulties connected witlvpublic recitation of -the Quicunque .vulV*-but it was eventually determined not to make any general recommendation as to the use or . disuse cthe creed, to the conference. The Aychbishop of Canterbury was requested to obtain a translation based upon the best Eatitt text.
