A BRAVE LAD.

London, July 5

Tom Lewis, of Newport, aged 14, crawled through a small hole 300 feet below the surface of the ground. He worked in, head downwards, fo r two hours,, and succeeded in sawing a beam and releasing a workman. The earth, however, suddenly collapsed. Lewis was hurriedly rescued, but the workman was killed. Another man was released by amputating his legs, but he died after the operation.
