DR. FINDLAY INTERVIEWED.
KING COUNTRY LICENSES. THE POLICE AND GAOLS. Christchurch, June 27. Dr Findlay, interviewed, said he had instructed the Crown Law Office to take steps to have the granting of wholesale liquor licenses iu the King Country tested by certiorari in the Supreme Court if the action were found not to be within the powers of the Licensing Committee. The order of reference of the Police Commission had not been drawn up and the scope of the inquiry had not been been settled. He hoped to have the reformatory prison at Moumahaki inaugurated as soon as the buildings had been erected. He was preparing a scheme for classification of all prisoners. Provision was beiug made for single cells at the tree-plantiug stations.
