Mr Baillie, manager of the local branch of the Bank ot New Zealand, is indisposed, and Mr Pike (of the Master ton branch) is relieving.
A most enjoyable social gathering took place at Mrs H. Austin’s fine country residence, “Te Motba,’| on Wednesday afternoon last, when over 50 guests were present at a “linen and handkerchief afternoon” given by the hostess in honour of Miss Fraser’s approaching wedding. A patent medicine guessing competition created a great deal of amusement and was won by Mrs Signal. Miss Fraser was the recipient of a handsome and useful collection of presents which she gracefully acknowledged. Vocal and instrumental items helped to while away a very pleasant and enjoyable afternoon.
