ANALYSIS OF RIVER WATER.
Dr. Makgiix, of the Health Department, intends visiting Foxtou to-day, with a view to inspecting the locality where the Council propose to take the water for a borough supply if the river is decided upon. So far we are not aware that the Council has decided upon any locality for an intake. That is a matter which will need very careful consideration. Samples of river and artesian water have been submitted for analysis but the Council has not yet received a report re same. We understand that the water from the river forwarded for analysis was obtained just below Mr Austin’s farthest mill. It is suggested that if river water is to be used for a town supply the intake should be outside tidal influence, and at the nearest river point to the Moutoa road. This, it is contended, would give a purer supply and would exclude vegetation from the mills. These, however, are points for experts to discuss. The artesian water supplied for analysis was obtained from Messrs Levin and Co.’s and Mr Ross’ wells.
