WATER AND DRAINAGE.
At last night’s Council meeting estimates were received from several engineers tor preparing a map of the borough and reporting on the question of water and drainage. The estimates were read in committee.
Cr Ross considered that the question should not be discussed at an ordinary meeting. It was a large and important scheme, and a special meeting in committee should be held to deal with it.
Cr Coley suggested holding a meeting in the day time. They could start in the morning, and would have more time than if the meeting were held at night.
It was decided on the motion of Cr Ross, seconded by Cr Speirs, that there be a committee of the whole Council called at an early date to take into consideration the question of water and drainage for the town, and the best means of having the same gwen effect to ; the consideration of a site for a pumping station, and whether artesian water be the water, or water be taken from the river and filtered ; and expert opinion to be obtained on which of the two water supplies is the best, cheapest and most effective way of obtaining a high water pressure.
