A FURTHER SACRIFICE.
The; decision of the informal meeting of Parliament to adjourn the House to enable the Prime Minister to attend the important Naval Conference in Eondon, is creating much adverse criticism in certain quarters. That the Prime Minister should represent the Dominion at the gathering, meets with universal approval, and the transcendent importance of the conference to the whole Empire is fully recognised. Public opinion is, however, divided on the point as to whether the session ol Parliament should be postponed until the Premier’s return. A majority of members have decided that Parliament shall be postponed, but it is questionable whether this decision meets with the people’s approval. A meeting of protest against the postponement is to be held in, the Wellington Town Hall on Tuesday evening, when all the Wellington City members of Parliament will speak. The meeting is the outcome of a gathering of commercial and professional men held recently. Mr W. F. Massey, leader of the Opposition, when approached by the promoters, favoured the idea of the meeting. The Premier’s reasons for postponing Parliament are already well known. On top of the Dreadnought offer, the business of the country is to be set aside until after the Premier returns. No wonder New Zealand is looked upon by the Imperial authorities as the brightest gem in the Empire’s crown ! What other State has offered to sacrifice so much ?
