DIVERTING THE COAL TRADE.

In reference to the rumour circulated some weeks ago, to the effect that the Government intended diverting the coal trade from the Foxton port to the Manawatu line, the Secretary of the local Harbour Board has received the following letter from the General Manager of the New Zealand Railways, in reply to a communication from the Harbour Board on the subject: “In regard to the rumour that it has been decided by the Railway Department to divert the coal traffic from the Foxton line to the Manawatu, I have the honour to inform you that your Board has evidently been mis-informed in regard to the matter, and the coal traffic will continue to come via Foxton, as hitherto.”
