FOOTBALL.

The secretary of the Awahou Football Club desires to acknowledge a donation of one guinea from Mr G. Coley.

A deputation from the Foxton Sub-Union consisting of Messrs Robinson, Whibly and Anderson, waited on the Manawatu Union at its meeting on Tuesday night, and asked that players residing within their boundaries be debarred from playing for clubs outside those boundaries. It was pointed out that the Carroll ' Bros., resided within the sub-union’s boundaries and were playing for the Feilding Club.

The chairman (Mr Pirani), contended that Foxton had no boundaries. The sub-union had been in existence for three years and this was the first time that boundaries had been mentioned. When the sub-union had been formed, the proposed boundaries should have been submitted to the Manawatu Union for their approval. This had not been done, and it was Foxton’s own fault that no boundaries had been defined.

The Foxton delegates said that the boundaries were distinctly set out in their books, and if they had not been approved of by the Manawatu Union it was that body’s own fault, as they had no right to accept an affiliation from a subunion without first sanctioning the boundaries. They could not have a sub-union without boundaries. They also asked that if the subunion had no boundaries why had the Manawatu Union, two seasons ago, refused to allow a senior team from Sanson to take part in their competition, on the ground that Sanson was in the Foxton district. They contended that by doing this the Manawatu had recognised Foxton’s boundaries. The Chairman said that in the Sanson case, that club had competed in the Foxton competition, the previous year, and the following year had asked to be allowed to compete in the Palmerston competition instead of Foxton. The Union refused their request. He contended that this decision did not affect the present case, as that was a club and the present dispute was in reference to individual players. It had certainly been Foxton’s own fault that no boundaries had been defined, and he asked the delegates to submit to the meeting what they considered were their boundaries, and they would then deal with them.

Alter a heated argument between the Chairman and one of the delegates, as to whether the Manawatu Union or the sub-union was at fault in the matter of boundaries, the delegates handed in what they considered were their boundaries which were as follows : —“From the southern boundary of the Mauawatu Union, along the Manawatu river (including the following flaxmills, Broad and Reeve (2), and Green (2), to Oroua Bridge, thence in a direct line to Mount Stewart, thence to the Sanson cemetery and from there to the Rangitikei river, and along the Rangitikei river to the sea coast.” The Chairman said that it was impossible to deal with the matter at that meeting, it would have to be held over until next week, to allow it to be fully gone into. The delegates asked that the matter be dealt with at once. It had now been hung up for three years, and they considered it should be settled at once. Messrs Stubbs and Muller were in favour of getting the matter settled at once if possible, but owing to there not being a map oi the Manawatu County available it was decided to hold it over until next meeting. The Foxton delegates asked if they would be allowed to attend the meeting.

The Chairman said that he did not think that there was any necessity for the Foxton delegates to be present. If they could not deal with a small matter like the present one without delegates from Foxton being present they should resign.

Alter an argument between one ol the delegates and the Chairman, Mr Foote moved that the Foxton delegates be invited to attend the next meeting of the Manawatu Union. The motion was carried.

One of the delegates then asked the hour and place at which the next meeting would be held. The Chairman said that he would not allow the delegate to take any further part in the discussion. He had been given more latitude than he was entitled to throughout the meeting. All information in reference to the next meeting would be forwarded to him by the secretary. At this stage there was another heated argument between the Chairman and the delegate as to what constituted taking part in a discussion, after which the delegates thanked the members of the Management Committee for the hearing that had been accorded them and withdrew.

The deputation also objected to the conditions about insurance of members, but it was pointed out that they were in exactly the same position as other teams, and that a telegram sent before a match giving the names of those who had paid insurance would be accepted.

The matches set down for decision on the race course on Saturday, are between Awahou and Albion in both the senior and junior competitions. The following are the teams for Saturday: Awahou (Senior) : Podjurski, Marsh, Toohey, Bird, Osboldstone, Carter, Joe, Webb, Reid, Saveli, Beckman, Hooker, Robinson, Andresen, Stringer and
