CORRESPONDENCE.
THE ARTESIAN EXPERIMENTAL BORE.
fTo the Editor.] ■ Sir,— l cannot compliment the old Council, which also includes some of the new, particularly the Mayor, in putting down an artesian bore in the Triangle in, Main St. I do not say this because they have not yet obtained a good flow, but for other reasons. It would not matter whether they obtained a good flow or not. Can any of the Council tell me what they are going to do with the water if a good flow is obtained ? Will they erect the pumping station there for a water supply scheme ? If the Council wanted to put down an experimental bore, why did they not.do so at a locality where it would have been of use in conjunction with the other bores, instead of wasting the reserves money as they are now doing. I should like to,know, sir, whether the Triangle is a reserve in the strict legal sense, or is it part of the road ? If it is not a reserve, and I question it, then the money is being illegally spent on the bore. Reserve money should be spent on improving the reserves. Can the Council honestly say that is what they are doing? Are they putting down that bore to beautify the rererve, or are they going to use the water for other purposes, and make the reserves fund pay the expense ? Can the Council juggle with the funds like that? The Mayor is a moral man, and I challenge him to give me a straight-out answer. It appears to me that the Council have made a blunder in using the . reserves money to experiment with an artesia n bore for water supply purposes.—l am, etc., Ratepayer. Foxton, June 7.
