THE MILITARY MOVEMENT.
Mr McNab’s meetings in reference to a universal military training scheme, are taken up with enthusiasm wherever he goes. We are surprised that he has not been invited to speak at Foxton, and would suggest to the promoters of the local volunteer movement—if they are not too disgusted with the scant consideration recently meted out to them by the Defence Department —to invite him to speak here. Every patriotic citizen must realise the necessity for the adoption of such a scheme as suggested by the ex-Miuister. We feel sure he would be greeted with a bumper house. According to Major Richardson, of Christchurch, the ladies can exercise a great influence for good in the military movement. Speaking recently at Christchurch, the gallant Major said the ladies should realise what a power they might be in the matter. For instance, every lady going into a ballroom could refuse to dance with a man who did not wear the King’s uniform. If he (the speaker) were a woman, he would sooner be a “wallflower” than dance with a man who had not the interests of the British nation at heart. They should insfil the same sentiment into their daughters and their servants, and in less than two years there would not be a man in New Zealand who would not be ashamed of himself if he were not a volunteer.
