FOOTBALL.
The seveu-a-side tournament of the Manawatu Rugby Union played on June 3, attracted a good attendance. The Palmerston Club won both the senior and junior contests. The local clubs were unable to get teams away and therefor did not take part. At Wellington on Thursday, the Wanganui “reps” were defeated by Wellington by 28 points to 3. Rangitikei defeated Wanganui B at Wanganui on Thursday by nine points to four. Ths executive of the Foxton Sub-Union meet to-night. Dr P. F. McEvedy, who was vice-captain of the Anglo? Welsh football team which visited the Dominion last year, is about to commence the practice of his profession in Wellington. Sciascia, who played tor Awahou a couple of seasons ago, is now “chasing the leather” tor the Levin Wanderers. He is looked upon as the best “hooker” playing in the Horowhenua Union’s competition. In view of the action taken by the Manwatu Union <in allowing players residing within the Foxton Sub-Union’s boundaries, to play tor clubs taking part in their competitions, it is interesting to note the action taken by other Unions on this question. In a letter to the Foxton Sub-Union the Secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Union states that players residing within a sub-union’s boundaries are not allowed to play for clubs outside such boundaries. If this rule is enforced by one Union, surely sub-unions in other districts have a right to be put on the same footing. If not, what are the boundaries defined for? The Secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Union also forwarded a copy of their rules governing sub-unions which will be dealt with in a future issue.
