The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, June 1,1909 THANKS FOR NOTHING.
Some time ago, our readers will remember, a deputation of Palmerston residents waited upon the Minister for Railways, with a request that the Saturday mid-day train, Palmerston to Foxtou, be delayed from noon to i p.m., to enable “ working men” to spend theif week-ends at the seaside. For some mysterious reason the request was acceded to by the Minister, without in any way considering the interests of the general travelling public, or the business people of Foxtou. During the whole period which the delayed train was run, we in vain looked for those “working men,” accompanied by their families, to arrive. In the meantime, passengers, mails, and goods to Foxtou have been held up, and for what reason ? The Palmerston Chamber of Commerce, who asked lor the innovation, have * ceived word that the old timetable will be resumed as from Saturday next. We would suggest that before the Minister grants a similar request in future, that the matter be more closely investigated.
