The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, May 25, 1909. HARBOUR BOARD REPRESENTATION.

Thk time of meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board was altered to suit the convenience of Feilding’s delegate. Despite this fact, the Feilding representative failed to put in an appearance last night. Nor did he send any apology for absence. So far, he has only attended one meeting* of the Board. Contrast this with the publicspirited action of-the Government representative, Mr Wood, who left the sick bedside ot a member of his family in Waitara, and undertook a wearisome railway journey in order to discharge a public duty. For the life of us, we fail to see why Feilding should be represented on the Board at all. It never sought representation, nor has it ever been enthusiastic over the constitution of the Board. Legally, we are of opinion that Feilding’s representative has now forfeited his seat. We suggest that the Act be amended in reregard to representation, and that Feilding be deleted, and extra representation be given to the Harbour district. Dummyism does not assist good administration, and it is time the Board put an end to it. s. \ ■ .
