THE C.E.T.S. FORWARD MOVEMENT.

The following letter appeared in a recent issue ot the Church Times: —“Sir, —May I beg for space to inform your readers that the following prayer has been authorised for use in church by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Bishops of London, Winchester, Durham, Bristol, Carlisle, Exeter, Gloucester, Liverpool, Llandaff, Oxford, Peterborough, Ripon, Rochester, St. Albans’ and Wakefield. O God, Who didst give Thy Blessed son for the redemption of the world, grant to us, Thy se;vants, grace to be fellow-workers with Thee. Prosper, we beseech Thee, at this time, our special effort to free the land from the sin of Intemperance, and establish Thy people in holiness and self-control. Put it into the hearts of many to give themselves therein to prayer and work, and grant us abuudantly the spirit of wisdom and of love, of zeal and of patience, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. It is hoped that other Bishops will shortly give their sanction to the prayer, but for the benefit of the clergy in the dioceses mentioned, I send the names of those who have already granted the necessary permission. May I crave your further in dulgence to state briefly that the Forward Movement is a great effort to awaken the communicants of the Church of England to the crying need for temperance work, without which so much other labour is in vain. We earnestly desire to enlist the sympathy and prayers of all Churchpeople, and especially of those who do not feel the necessity for being abstaineis, and who are just as welcome in '.he ranks of the C.E.T.S. as the mo t extreme teetotalers. — Gerald A. Thompson, Secretary, Church of England Temperance Society. 4, The Sanctuary. Westminster, S.W. Feb. 23.’’
