FOOTBALL.

The bad weather on Saturday was responsible for the Executive of the Sub-Union holding a special meeting to discuss the advisability of postponing the matches set down for decision. It was pointed out that the weather would prevent some of the players selected from putting in an appearance and to ensure each club being able to put a full team in the field it was decided to postpone the junior fixture, so that any vacancies in the senior teams could be filled from the junior ranks.

As was expected, owing to the number of juniors taking part, the play was not up to senior form. Albions took the field with ten men, but, within five minutes of the commencement of play were reinforced by lour more, thus playing one man short. After about three minutes play Awahou got possession from a scrum and after the ball had passed through the hands of almost all the backs Tuohy ran over. The shot at goal, though an easy one, was unsuccessful. From the drop out Albions worked into Awahous’ 25 where play was kept for almost the remainder of the spell, several good chances of scoring being missed. Awahou held the advantage practically all through the second spell and should have scored at least twice. About half way through the spell Hooker got over. The try was converted. There was no further score and the whistle sounded, leaving Awahou victorious by 8 points to nil. Dr Adams refereed and gave every satisfaction. NOTES. “Bert” Shad bolt is showing good form in Wellington this year. He Is playing for Poneke. He has been chosen as one of the forwards to represent Wellington against Wanganui on June 3,

Martin Wainiata, the well - known ex - Horowhenua, Manawatu and North Island representative three-quarter, has retired and is now refereeing in the Horowhenua Union's competitions. “Martin’s” long experience on the football fields, playing as he has with some of the foremost players in the Dominion should fit him to a first-class referee. bocal players will be pleased to hear that Momo, ex-Te Aute, Foxton and Manawatu “rep” is playing well this year at Masterton. He is playing for the Red Star Club, and if be can show his old form should be a certainty for the Wairarapa reps. The Awahou seniors will indulge in a practice match on the racecourse on Saturday.
