HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A general meeting of Ae above society was held in the Secretary’s office on Thursday evening. The president (Mr A. Speirs) presided over a large attendance of members. The rules and regulations which had been revised by the general committee at its last meeting were read over and with several amendments were adopted. The date for holding the spring show was fixed for November 24th and 25th and the autumn show April 15th and 16th. The catalogue as revised by the committee was read and with the addition of-one class was adopted. The Secretary stated that Miss Neylon had given an oil painting as a special prize for the spring show, and it was decided to allot it for the most points in home industries. Mrs Healey has also given a camera valued at _is as a prize for the best handwriting for children under 16, Both donors were accorded votes of thanks for their donations. Considerable discussion took place on the question whether children’s exhibits should be free, and a motion was moved that all exhibits in the children's class be admitted free, to this an amendment was moved that an entrance fee of threepence be charged. The amendment was carried. Other minor matters were discussed and the meeting terminated.
