COMPULSORY MILITARY TRAINING.

NOISY SOCIALISTS. Wellington, May 13. A public meeting was held in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall to-night in favour of compulsory military training, the Mayor (Dr Newman) presiding. Opposition to this movement had been manifested for some time by Socialists and some others, and they mustered in force to oppose any resolution favouring compulsory training. Mr R. McNab, ex-Minister of Defence, was the principal speaker, and with great difficulty and constant interruption he managed to deliver an address in favour of compulsory military training, although his speech was curtailed and much of his argument lost owing to the uproar.

It seemed impossible to maintain order, all speakers being subjected to continued heckling. Two motions were put, but nether was disposed of.
