Christchurch, May 12. The Hon. J. A, Millar, Minister for Railways, stated to a reporter yesterday that he had received the report of the Addington Workshops Commission. The report will be submitted to Cabinet, which will decide whether its contents will be made public at once or after the document has been presented to Parliament. The Minister visited the workshops this afternoon. As the outcome of a recent assault case in Creyke Street, which was characterised by much violence and brutality, two young men, William Nicholls and William Cotter, were charged at the Magistrate’s Court this morning, with having, on May 5, at Christchurch, robbed Sarah Falloon of the sum of £2, and used personal violence towards her. Accused both pleaded not guilty, and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed. The Mayor of Christchurch has arranged, in response to a requisition, to call a public meeting of citizens to hear the views of Mr McNab, ex-Minister for Defence, on matters relating to defence on the evening of Empire Day. Wanganui, May 12. A party of sportsmen who were out shooting game near the coast south of Hawera on Saturday night, saw a continuous discharge of rockets out at sea from 7 to xo o’clock that evening, and again at 5 o’clock on Sunday morning. The party think the rockets proceeded from a ship in distress. Hamilton, May 12. At the election petition hearing, Mr Parr addressed the Court this morning. He contended that the Act was based on common law, and that unless a principle was violated the election must be valid. The Judges intimated that they hope to give their judgment on Saturday, and said that no costs would go against Mr Grace, the Returning Officer. The Court llieu rose.
