The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, April 29, 1909. YESTERDAY’S ELECTION.
The burgesses of the borough have reason to congratulate themselves on the personnel of the new Council, which includes some of our best citizens, the majority of whom stand pledged to the initiation of a water and drainage scheme and the erection of a much needed municipal town hall and the construction of good footpaths. This policy has the endorsement of the ratepayers. It will be seen, therefore, that the Council has plenty of work ahead of it. We wish the new Council a successful term of office and have reason to believe they will fully merit the confidence reposed in them. The following is the percentage of voles polled by each candidate: Coley 70.25 Levett 66.00 Jenks 59-77 Speirs 59-49 Gibbs 56,37 Adams 52.97 Rae-Howard 5 2 - 6 9 Ross 52-69 Rimmer 5 1 - 2 ? Mandl 49.85 Ball 45-60 Robinson 38.81 Stewart 37.96
52.76 per cent, of voters on the District Electors List recorded tfleir votes at yesterday’s poll. 2,563 individual votes were cast, giving an average per voting paper of 7.26.
