FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above Board to have been held yesterday morning lapsed for the want of a quorum. There were present : Messrs Gower (chairman), Nash (Palmerston), Wilson (Mauawatu County Council), and the acting clerk (MrR. Moore). Apologies were received from Messrs Wood and Gardener. No apology was received from the Feilding representative, who, has only attended one meeting of the Board. The other Board representative Mr P. J. Hennessy, is away on leave of absence. Mr Nash said if there was important business to transact it would be as well to attend to it and have it confirmed at the next meeting. Mr Wilson and the Chairman concurred.

Correspondence was read from the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, relative to the appointment of secretary, asking the Board if possible to recognise the work done by the secretary to the Harbour Board movement.

It was decided to allow the pilot to engage an assistant when one was required. The pilot reported that he had collected £7 in rents.

The Postmaster wrote, slating that a telephone connection would be laid on to the Heads from the wharf, for the use of masters of ships only. Mr Nash said he intended to move a resolution at the next meeting of the Board In reference to leasing sections at the Heads. He pointed out that tenants who had houses at the Heads would be prepared to pay an increased rental if they had security of tenure. One person had informed him that he desired to erect a hall at the Beach, but would not do so until he could secure a lease of the section.

It was pointed out that the sections were at present let at a monthly tenancy. —It was decided to go fully into this question at the next Board meeting. The Chairman said it would be necessary to draw up by-laws, and the Clerk was instructed to obtain copies of by-laws from Wanganui, Patea, Waitara, and Whangarei Boards. Several other minor matters were discussed, and the meeting rose. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the Board on May xoth.
