MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above was held on Wednesday. Present—Crs J. G. Wilson (chairman), Masters, Kendall, Henson, R. B. McKenzie, Dalton, and Barber. CORRESPONDENCE. From Paymaster-General, forwarding £6l 2ii 9d for tram charges. From 16 ratepayers in Awahou riding, asking that the big hill on Moutoa road be widened. The Treasurer reported: General account, debit balance £609 3s gd ; loan account, credit balance, 9 s 3d. Riding accounts.—Available for expenditure : Sandon, £B7 12s gd; Carnarvon, £2O 18s 2d ; Awahou, ,£24 15s gd. Over expended : Mt .Stewart,' £lO7 ; Waitohi, ,£36 5s gd ; Rongotea, £,183 3s 3d ; Kawakawa, £326 8s 3d ; Whirokino, £'27 5 s - ; , rate-roll. The following transfers on the rate-roll were agreed to : E. D. and J. Webb to A. S. Easton, section 433, Foxton suburban ; D. H. Campbell to Cleland Bros., suburban sections 25 and 26, Foxton; Cleland Bros, to Cable Bros., sections 26 to 82, Foxton. The Tramway report showed a debit balance of £7 8s lid for the month, but against this the extraordinary expenditure was: Repairs £6O 17s, sleepers £43 17s fid, freight £4. The petition for the cutting down of the big hill on the Awahou road was referred to the Overseer and Cr Barber to see what could be-done. The Overseer reported as follows: Whirokino Subdivision. —C. Petersen has completed his contract on No. x and 2 lines, and on the Whirokino road. I would recommend the Council ■ to procure some concrete pipes of the larger size to replace the old wooden culverts when they collapse. The, roads throughout the county are in good order, excepting the newly-metalled patches. Tramway report.— A crossing could be made at the Himatangi end of the siding for £5, or the siding should be removed for two chains towards Himatangi, but he could not recommend the work until the line was relaid with 4olb rails, when the siding and platform could be removed and a siding place only provided.
