FREEZING WORKS SITE.

Thk Chairman of the Foxtou Harbour Board forwarded the following telegram to the promoters of the co-operative freezing works movement for Wairarapa and Mauawatu:— Foxtou Harbour Board will give site required for freezing .works at Mauawatu Heads, and assist the movement all it can. Gowkk, Chairman Foxtou Harbour Board. Meetings of farmers interested have been held in the Wairarapa and also at Palmerston on Thursday. We understand a further meeting was to have been held at Feildiug yesterday, when the handsome offer tendered by the Foxtou Harbour Board would be submitted to the promoters. The site should commend itself from every point of view, being right on the sea board. The cargo steamers could lay outside and pick up their cargoes iu the same manner as in done in the roadsteads at Waitara, Patea and Wanganui. Should heavy weather be experienced outside, the lee of Kapiti Island would afford steamers ample shelter. The gift of a site and ample accommodation for stock at the Heads is an unprecedented offer and would reduce the initial cost of the works by several thousand pounds. Further, the heavy railway haulage and double handling of carcases would be obviated if the Foxtou site were chosen. When the quests n of site is definitely settled there is no doubt that Foxtou, by reason of its excellent geogiaphical position, backed by the Harbour Board’s handsome offer, will be selected. If not, then the movement will have very little support from Mauawatu and Raugitikei.
