The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, April 3,1909.
In Thursday’s issue we published a paragraph in reference to a statement made by Mr Eoughuau, who was acting for a client who was' sued at Wednesday’s sitting of the local S.M. Court, for legal expenses. Mr Eoughnan stated “that it appeared to him that every time defendant spoke to plaintiff, he was charged for it,” which led us to comment that “legal luminaries must be waxing fat in this fair country!” This comment may have created an impression on the minds of some people that the firm in question charged excessively for legal work. As a matter of fact, no legal firm can exceed a certain fixed scale. Apart altogether from that fact, we desire to say that we know of no legal firm—and we have had dealings with many—whose charges have been so reasonable, and who have given us such general satisfaction as Messrs R. Moore and Barnard. In making this statement, we are only echoing the sentiments of their numerous clients. We desire to make this explanation in fairness to a gentleman of the legal profession, whom we are pleased to call our confidant.
