PROFESSOR DAVID'S RECEPTION.

THE VALUE OF ALCOHOL. Sydney, April 2, The Lord Mayor presided over a great meeting of citizens to welcome Professor David on his return from polar exploration. The doors .of the Town Hall were closed early to prevent overcrowding, and ProF -lessor David was locked out. He was unable to gain entrance for half an hour, and the Federal Attorney-General only forced his way through on the back of an alderman. Hundreds were unable to gain admission. Professor David, in the course of a speech, said it was almost as difficult to get into the gathering as it was to work a way to the magnetic pole. In this connection he wished to say with, great emphasis that the magnetic pole was not discovered or located by him, but by Hr Mawson. He laid stress on the fact that during their four months’ journey the party had not one drop of alcohol. On one occasion, a birthday celebration, they had just a little wine, but they found that their resistance to the cold dropped, so they dropped alcohol.
