THE MYSTERIOUS RADIUM.
MAY BE FOUND IN NEW ZEAEAND. New Zealand is fortunate in having been so plentifully endowed with mineral resources, but the actual extent of these resources is not yet known. Shall we one day make a dazzling find of radium in this country ? Mr Clement Wragge, F.R.G.S,, in a lecture at Auckland, speaking of radium and its enormous commercial value, viz., .£3,200,000 to the lb avoirdupois, said he had noticed that a rich find of coal had recently been made in the neighbourhood of Whangarei. If those engaged in prospecting could only discover pitch blende (from which radium was obtained) the gift of a Dreadnought to the nation would be as nothing compared with it. From what he knew of New Zealand, pitch blende, if ever discovered in the Dominion, would be found North of Auckland.
