“ WITH DENIS KIWA’S COMPLIMENTS.”
Some lime since our readers will remember that we chronicled the fact that a son had been born to their Excellencies Lord and Eady Plunket, at Palmerston. We voiced Foxton’s pleasure at the event and suggested that the little stranger in the household of the King’s representative should be called Denis. We opine that our suggestion did not even “catch the eye” of their Excellencies and in no way had anything to do with the naming of the child. Time, however, wore on, and the christening festivities were announced. The name chosen for the baptismal linked Ireland and our own beloved country around the “wee chap,” lor they called him “ Denis Kiwa.” The Hkkald was proud of the fact that it was the only journal in the Dominion to “pick” at least one portion of the name, and we suggested that a piece of christening cake should be our reward. By Saturday’s post a mysterious parcel arrived, addressed to the editor, bearing the seal of Government House, and beneath the wrapping was disclosed what colonial boys are pleased to call a “ hunk ” of cake. Sure enough it was a piece of christening cake, beautifully iced, and bearing the Irish emblem, and a note bore the inscription “ with Denis Kiwa’s compliments.” We are sorry that we cannot share the cake with our readers, but we are sure they will join with us in the wish that God will bless the little fellow and that he will grow up to be a good and giftel man of Empire.
