LEVIN - MARION RAILWAY.
During the visit of the Premier to Marton on Tuesday night, he accepted an invitation to motor over the route of the proposed Levin-Marton deviation, and said that provision would be made for the expense of a survey on the estimates next session. At Marton on October 7th Mr John Stevens (then M.P.), in referring to this matter stated that in reply to a question that, with others concerned, he was instrumental in getting the Prime Minister to promise that a survey of the land would be made as soon as practicable.
Speaking at Foxton on the 20th November of last year, Mr Stevens detailed his action in advocating the Levin - Marton railway, as a result of which a survey was to be made and estimates prepared.
Since Mr Newman has been elected member for the district he has also given the matter much attention.
It is pleasing to note that the first step, that of the survey, is within measurable distance.
