The charge states it as 2s. MR TINKLE—That is the market price, hut the real value is incalculable. MAGISTRATE —I do not understand. What have you to say, Mr Huttommy F MR HUTTOMMY (for defendant) —We plead guilty, but the provocation was great and rresistible. It was a Sunday and MAGISTRATE—Word as ever, Tom —I mean Mr Huttommy—but surely I must know what this packet contained. COUNSEL (in unison) —it was “ D ” blend SURATURA. MAGISTRATE —Ah ! Then I must sample this, and pronounce sentence later. MAGISTRATE (later). I have tested this tea, and admit that the provocation was indeed great. Yet the sentence must be commensurate with the offence, that it is that you pay a FINE OF £lO or go for one mouth without Suratura. Meanwhile the Court, will look after the stolen packet. (We understand that the fine was promptly paid).
