FREEZING WORKS AT THE HEADS.
SUGGESTION BY MR HENNESSY. A movement is on foot in the Wairarapa to found a co-operative freezing works and the matter has been widely discussed in the Manawatu and West Coast dis, tricts. The question as to site has also been under consideration. In conversation with Mr Hennessy, a member of the local Harbour Board, he expressed the opinion that the promoters of the company could not obtain a more suitable or convenient locality for the proposed works than at the Heads. He said he was sure that the Harbour Board would place all the land that would be requited by the Company for works and stock holding purposes at their disposal for a peppercorn rental. A great saving would be effected,
particularly in transit of stock and on coal haulage. A light line of railway could be constructed ala minimum of cost from Foxton to the works. Ocean cargo boats could be loaded direct from the works by means of lighters, and plenty of shelter would be afforded the steamers in rough weather under the lee of Kapiti Island. He said it was his intention to bring up the matter at the next meeting of the Harbour Board.
