FOXTON V. HIMATANGI. The competition for the Austin Shield was continued at Himatangi yesterday, when Foxtou defeated the home team by 50 runs on the first innings. Several of the selected players* of the Foxton club were unable to make the trip and it was necessary to take two schoolboys and also to play the coachdriver to enable them to put a full team in the field. Himatangi were represented by perhaps the best team they have had this season. Foxton batted first, the innings closing for 92 runs, Baillie 30 and Robinson 25 being the chief scorers. Both these batsmen played very sound cricket, the former showing particularly good form. None of the other players reached double figures. The two schoolboys, Nye and Howe, with coaching, are the making of good players, Himataugi’s fielding was poor, several catches being missed. Ol the bowlers, Rossand Grant were the most successful the former securing four wickets tor 16 runs and the latter two for six. Himatangi’s innings produced 42 runs. Ross, snr,, Ix, was the only double figure scorer. Foxton’s fielding, though certainly’ better than that of Himatangi, I still left room for improvement. Afternoon tea was provided by the home team.
