BOROUGH FINANCES.
At last uight’s meeting of the Borough Council the Treasurer reported having banked the sum of £29 os 8d to the credit of the District Fund Account, since the last monthly meeting of the Council. The balance of the said account was 21s 6d, and the following is a statement of the various separate accounts General, ,£303 9s 3d ; library £25 16s yd ; cemetery, £4 is 6d (all overdrawn) ; reserves, Interest, ,£139 6s yd (all in credit). Included in the ,£303 9s 3d overdrawn in the General Account is ,£136 los advanced to £3OO, streets loan account and £65, advanced for licensing expenses, which will reduce the dr. balance on general account to ,£lOl 19s 3d. The Government subsidy for the Library 2s 6d now due will reduce the debit balance of this account to ,£lO 14s id. The Library Account would have been in credit this year but for the unusual expenditure in fitting up the building with gas pipes and fittings of which 14s was charged to Library Account. Last year ,£29 2s 3d was advanced to the Sanitation Account from the General Account, and when this sum is repaid the Sanitation Account will show a debit of £3 14s 1 id, and the debit on General Account will be reduced to £76 ns nd. In making up the estimates for next year I hope to reduce the special rates for interest, as we now have a credit balance in that account of ,£*39 6s yd.
