SENTRY WATCHES A MAN DROWN.
An .extraoulinary example of Gennan military discipline, which occimed on Christmas Kve, near Bionikowcn is attracting public attention (say's the Berlin correspondent ot the Daily Kxpress). Herr Arthur Kriede, -a wealthy landowner of Bronikowen, was skating on Sensburg Hake, when the, ice broke and he fell through into the water. A soldier was doing senliy duly close at hand, and Ki iede shouted to the soldier lot help, and begged him to render assistance. Military regulations, however, prohibit a soldier doing sentry duly from leaving his post under any circumstances whatever. As this particular soldier could not render assistance to Kriede without leaving his post and thereby infringing military regulations, he remained where he was aud watched Kriede drown before his eyes. There were several long poles lying near the spot, aud the soldier need only have walked to the br nk of the lake and held out one of the poles to the drowning man to effect his rescue.
