SALE OF WORK.
OPEN TO-NIGHT
The sale of work inaugurated by the Methodist Ladies’ Guild, was opened in the Methodist schoolroom yesterday afternoon by the Rev, P. J. Mairs, owing to the unavoidable absence of the Mayor. Good business was reported by the stall-holders. The following presided over the stalls: Fancy needlework, Mrs Knewstubs; plain sewing, Mesdames Signal! and Walker; lollie stall, Misses Honore and Siguall; produce and flowers, Misses Rimmer and Walker and the Rev. Mr Mairs ; shooting gallery, Mr E. Walker ; competitions, Mr G. Honore ; refreshments, Mesdames Cummerfield and Stiles. The following are the names of the assistants: — Misses Walker (2), Mairs, Langley, and Cooper. Special mention must be made of Mr R. Rimmer, who worked like a trojan fixing up the stalls, etc. The piano was kindly lent by Mrs Sherratt. Prior to the function opening last night, the Borough Brass Baud played a few selections outside the building.
Orchestral selections were rendered at intervals throughout the evening. Good business was reported at all the stalls. To-night a specially attractive programme will be submitted, including vocal and instrumental items, also an amusing dialogue entitled, “A trip to Mauro.” The characters will be sustained by Miss D. Signall, Messrs E. Cowley and A. Bullard.
